Hot Hotter Hottest

Seroiusly, I've lived in the South almost my entire life (five years in New York... but otherwise, 29 years below the Mason-Dixon Line). And this is the hottest I have ever been. The weather guy said the other day that we were entering week five of the summer heat wave. We're talking over 100 degrees EVERY day for the last five weeks. It's so miserable here. We're burning, sweating, and dying after ten minutes outside. Owen & I walk every morning, but we have to get out before 8am, or we're just too miserable. I'd love to take him to the park (and he would love to go), but we just can't take the heat. We go to the neighborhood swimming pool three or four times a week, but we just can't go every day. So I have two or so hours after lunch before afternoon naptime. I need stuff to do that is cool and free (have I mentioned we're pretty poor these days). We don't have much here. There's no library to speak of (a suggestion made by a friend who lives in a bigger city). And I also have a kid who has an attention span of about 20 minutes AT THE MOST. I'm just afraid I'm boring him and not enriching him enough. I'm worried his language isn't developing at the rate it should (he only says like four words even though he really seems to understand what we say to him). This is just the worst summer to have a kid who now knows how to walk and wants to be outside all the time. He goes to the door and pounds on it crying to go out. It makes me sad. =(

  1. We have this problem too... in winter. We got a membership to a local museum and go every weekend. We've more than made up for the cost. Don't worry about boring him...worry about boring yourself!

  2. There's a neat children's museum in Austin. And I want to go often. I just hate that we live in the 'burbs. Going into Austin is such a pain in the ass! Thanks!
